| "The
Audet Dit LaPointe" Family History
Our
first LaPointe to arrive on the North American Continent was Nicholas Audet.
Prior to 1670, Nicholas landed on a point of land on Ile
d'Orleans, an island in the St. Lawrence, just down the river from Quebec
City. The First Nations People living on the island named him La Pointe. The surname,
"Audet Dit LaPointe" continued to be used for three more generations. A
fourth generation descendant, Gabriel Audet dit LaPointe decided to leave the
island and took up residence in the Carleton-Maria area. It was during this time
period that some family members decided to use the name Audet. Gabriel and at
least two of his children - Charles and Marguerite - chose to use LaPointe. In
1815, we find Gabriel and son, Charles, petitioning for land in Nash Creek, New
Brunswick. I would like
to thank Mrs. Rosaline Guitard, Petit Rocher, N.B. for all the information she
has given me on the LaPointes and my other ancestral roots. This lady is well
versed in Acadian Genealogy. (Information
provided by Betty Saunders, Fredriction, N. B.)

Ile
D'Orleans - The First Place Our Ancestors Settled A
very large part of the La Pointes' settled in the Jacquet River and Nash Creek
area from 1886 to 1920. Jacquet River registrars contained one Audette record
and about 230 Lapointe/Lapoint's. Nash Creek has one record of Audette and 2 Audets'
and 137 Lapointes'. This
and much more information about our ancestry can be found at this link, with the

grandparents moved to Hamilton, Ontario in the 60's and have since resided in
that area and much of my family now lives there and for that I place an Ontario
flag on this page as many of the La Pointe's do live there now.
